In the second installment, Plater-Zyberk discusses the patterns of urban transformation occurring around the United States in the context of smaller towns.

In the first installment of this series, Plater-Zyberk discussed Miami 21, the comprehensive planning project her firm Duany Plater-Zyberk and Company is currently developing for the city of Miami. In the forthcoming third part of this series, Plater-Zyberk discusses the role of the next generation of planners, architects and designers in creating livable cities.

This interview was conducted in July 2006 by Planetizen Correspondent Mike Lydon, a graduate student in urban planning at the University of Michigan who spent the summer interning at DPZ and Company.

Even if the report overestimates the costs by a factor of two and underestimates the tax-benefit by a similar amount, the conclusion would be pretty much the same: destination resorts cost local government and taxpayers money.
