A New California National Monument

A new National Monument near Palm Springs is being created. But the management will be by BLM and not by the National Park Service.
There is a new debate about the fundamental change in the way that the federal government is protecting land. There have been 7 previous monuments named since 1996, and all of them are under the BLM and not the Forest Service. Opponents fear that the protection of the land will be lax.
