Charrette Sets Tone For Future Downtown Development

Civic buildings could serve as anchors for downtown amidst future development in Spartanburg, South Carolina, according to preliminary plans drafted at the end of a weeklong charrette, designed to craft a downtown master plan for the city.

"In the culmination of a weeklong 'charrette' process, a mixed crowd at the Hub-Bub showroom Tuesday night received various visions of Spartanburg's future, some anchored in very realistic projects.

The overwhelming theme was the challenge of connectivity: Bringing together construction and development by government, businesses and nonprofits, and forging that with paths through the city that can link the community, while providing a place for residents to live, work, play, worship and learn in the city's core."
