Toronto's Love-Hate Relationship With Density
While many residents agree that the city should intensity, NIMBYism still percolates up in the neighborhoods.
"Torontonians embrace the idea of intensification, at least theoretically, but many balk when a highrise condo is proposed in their neighbourhood.
NIMBY-ism is alive and well when it comes to highrise towers in Toronto. Residents worry about increased traffic, blocked sunlight, affected property values, impacts on local services such as schools, and just the general shaking up of the neighbourhood."
"More discord is inevitable, given the focus on intensification in the city's new official plan and the province's strategy to curtail urban sprawl. Toronto will be home to 1 million new residents by 2031. The city wants to concentrate new development along major avenues, subway lines and municipal centres."
