America's New Suburban Main Streets

A harbinger of 21st century America: dozens of post-Second World War suburbs that never had a Main Street are building new ones from scratch.
"These new suburban Main Streets are not outdoor shopping malls masquerading as Main Streets in name only. Like pre-World War II small town Main Streets, they boast a full range of everyday uses and activities....integrated within a pedestrian-friendly environment. Why are shopping mall/auto-dominated post-World War II suburbs suddenly building these new pedestrian-oriented Main Streets?"
