Sewage A Growing Threat To Oceans
The pollution -- linked to rising coastal populations, overuse of marine resources, inadequate treatment infrastructure and poor waste handling facilities -- is putting at risk marine life and habitats, human health, as well as livelihoods from fisheries to tourism. The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) reports that increasing levels of sewage in the world's oceans are a major cause of coastal destruction, and pose a serious threat to human health.
