Graduate School Urban Planning

21 August 2006 - 1:17pm

I am applying to graduate schools in Urban Planning, but there doesn't seem to be anything to tell you which schools have strong programs, and which ones should be left alone. I don't really have a planning background, but I have an interest in both land use planning as well as historical preservation planning. Does anyone have any advice?

Graduate Urbn Planning

You may want to look at this university:

https://online.une.edu.au/

This uni offers very well structured courses in planning, and most of it's students are external. My wife & I are currently studying Planning, and are seriously impressed with the course and the presentation. You do of course require high speed (broadband) internet.
Good luck

I work for the U.S. EPA Region 4 and am leading an outreach effort that will involve graduate schools like you are trying to identify. Have you had any luck in discovering such a list of graduate schools in this field, and secondarily, any commentary on them? Thanks for letting me know.

Grad school ranking

I'm sorry, I haven't found any lists for this. Only the one this sight is putting together. I've mostly found out through friends of friends who are already in the planning field.

Planetizen 2007 Guide To Graduate Urban Planning Education

Hi JLC,

We get asked this question a lot at Planetizen, and we're not aware of any recent reputable ranking of graduate planning programs. We do know of a few resources that offer some information on this topic:

Faculty Quality At Graduate Planning Schools Ranked

City Management, Urban Policy Programs Ranked

However, you may be pleased to know that we are presently preparing the first independent guide and ranking of graduate urban planning programs. The 2007 Planetizen Guide to Graduate Urban Planning Education will be available in November, 2006 on the Planetizen website. You can read a little bit more about our effort here:
