Aspen's Booming Market For Planning Consultants

An industry of planning consultants, many of them former Aspen city planners, has set up shop to help builders navigate through the city's complex development review process.
"A search of the online Yellow Pages telephone directory for Aspen shows 17 listings under planners-city, regional, etc. The Grand Junction phone book lists six and the Denver phone book lists 50.
In towns and counties with less complex land-use regulations, architects and lawyers often carry the burden of making sure development projects comply. Not so in Aspen, where a history of restrictive land use regulation has created demand for people who specialize in knowing the regulations."
