Connecticut Moves Commuter Rail Plans Forward

2 August 2006 - 9:00am

Officials hope to revive service between Central Connecticut and New York City for the first time in 35 years.

The plans call for weekday commuter rail service between New Haven, Hartford and Springfield, Mass.

"Connecticut officials and their western Massachusetts counterparts believe the commuter line could ease highway congestion and create jobs by boosting the region's economic development."

The Metro-North New Haven Line, which connects New Haven to New York City, is already the nation's busiest commuter line, with 120,000 trips daily.

My Opinion

I have really been studying mas transit options in New England and have had the pleasure to study Connecticuts mass transit options, althoug its ridership isnt really that great, i think they would still benefit from an extrension of there existing line

All of that only scratches the surface of what's wrong with this study. The idea that complex urban development patterns and human behavior can be meaningfully studied according to one primary criteria — density — is wrong from the start.
