California and Britain Sign Global Warming Accord

2 August 2006 - 8:00am

Sidestepping the federal government, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed a historic partnership with British Prime Minister Tony Blair to address climate change.

"California will not wait for our federal government to take strong action on global warming," said Schwarzenegger in a statement. "International partnerships are needed in the fight against global warming, and California has a responsibility and a profound role to play to protect not only our environment, but to be a world leader on this issue as well".

The pact between Britain and California calls for studying the economic benefits and costs of mandatory cap-and-trade programs or other regulations that Britain and other European countries have implemented, and of new energy technology, with an eye to a possible joint emissions trading program between California and Britain in the future.

My Opinion

WOOT WOOT!!! Now if only the US would sign this. With these temperatures lately and all this weather, (and we have someone in office who says global warming doesnt exist), i only wish more people would take action
