Housing Out Of Reach For UK Public Sector Workers
29 July 2006 - 11:00am
With prices doubling in the past five years across Britian, a key sector of the workforce is frozen out of the housing market in two-thirds of cities and towns.
A recent bank report "found the asking price for a house in 339 of 519 towns surveyed was unaffordable for police officers, ambulance staff, firefighters, nurses and teachers. In 2001, the figure was 124."
"The government has recognised the problem of key workers being priced out of the market. The Key Worker Living scheme and, since April, the Homebuy scheme are intended to help an additional 20,000 households to buy their own home by 2010."

Maybe we should blame Thomas Jefferson. He was the godfather of the urban sprawl racket in America.
