Technology Helping to Encourage Sustainable Design
Three-dimensional "intelligent models" are helping to build high-profile projects around the world that embrace sustainable design.
"Until recently, the traditional tools used to design buildings, machines or consumer goods were principally concerned with how things looked, not how they behaved.
Using modern software, however, designers can model behaviors from ventilation flows to natural lighting and rapidly see how each will change with any kind of alteration, including the addition of energy systems, such as solar and wind power.
Some of these innovations will be featured in Design:e2, a television series that will be broadcast in the coming weeks on many PBS stations around the country."
