Environmentalists Oppose Plans For Nation's Largest Wind Farm

Nation's largest wind farm to be built in the Gulf of Mexico would power 125,000 homes.
"Some environmentalists said the spinning blades could kill countless rare birds that migrate through the area each year on their way to and from winter grounds in Mexico and Central America."

"It's so out of control," said Duany, referring to the current state of public participation in planning decisions in the United States. "It's an absolute orgy of public process… basically, we can't get anything done."

Slightly Misleading
I think it's slightly misleading to quote only that one sentance. Real environmentalists are aware that the "killing birds" story is mostly a myth backed up by a few bird deaths at some older, outdated, wind farms in Altamont Pass.
Modern turbines (and it's safe to assume this project) are much bigger and turn much more slowly than the old ones making bird deaths almost trivial.
Those who insist on feeding this myth typically have other motives to oppose wind farm development, or they are bird lovers who have been woefully mislead.
Making the statement above gives environmentalists an undue bad name.
