Expedition Discovers Source Of Nile River
4 April 2006 - 7:00am
After many dangerous encounters, a British team claims to have discovered that the world's longest river is actually 107 kilometers longer than previously thought.
"The Ascend the Nile team, whose first attempt was called off last year after a British man was shot by rebels, reached the finishing point on Friday.
They claim to be the first to have travelled the river's length to its 'source' in Rwanda's Nyungwe Forest.
Hampshire adventurer Neil McGrigor said it was 'an awesome achievement'."
"The team travelled the vast distance in three 4m (13ft) boats, overcoming obstacles such as 'massive rapids, crocodile charges, serious tropical diseases and horrendous logistics'."
