Corning is a gorgeous antique of a community in the Chemung Valley in upstate New York, 135 miles southeast of Buffalo. Corning is luckier than Buffalo or Binghamton or Baldwinsville -- it's home to Corning Inc. -- which, as the world's largest producer of optical fiber, is essentially laying the pavement for the information superhighway.
