1961 Robert Frey building in Palm Springs gets conditional reprieve.
Expressing concern over scale, traffic and design, Palm Springs City Councildenied a grocery chain's proposal to tear down a 1961 Robert Frey-designedstore and replace it with a development which would include a larger store, aStarbucks Coffee and fast-food outlets. While the store is not one of six Freybuildings that have Class 1 Historic status, preservationists say it is "thelast remaining of its kind." The development plan can be revised andre-submitted to the council.
