New Jersey Begins Considering Water In Planning
Despite a history of plentify supply, water is a central issue in New Jersey's future growth as it races to become the first state to reach full build-out of its developable land.
"New Jersey is expected to be the first state in the nation to reach build-out of its developable land, which is expected to take place in 20 to 40 years at today's pace of development, according to New Jersey Future. Every day, bulldozers eat another 50 acres of land to make room for another house, road or shopping mall.
...[W]ater is at the heart of many of the state's other environmental issues, including the implementation of the Highlands Act, smart growth, wetlands preservation, open space, farmland preservation, toxic waste, flooding, wildlife habitat preservation and storm water and wastewater regulations."
