Newport Bay is home to many endangered species but sediment threatens to choke the bay. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is finalizaing an epic $31 million restoration plan for Newport Bay."Wetlands with ocean tides that wash in and out, stimulating growthof rare salt-tolerant plants, are vanishing on the California coast; theones that remain amount to less than 5 percent of what existedbefore modern civilization."
