Three Barriers To Density In San Mateo County

The associate director of a non-profit asserts that no-growth policies help increase housing costs.
"...elected officials are coming to the consensus that the key lies in greater housing densities.. But, as an urban planning consultant pointed out, there are three main barriers to making that happen. First is the character of the highway... Second is demand. Some people are concerned that few people will want to live that close to their neighbors...Third is the challenge of making the projects economically viable in the face of high land costs and expensive drawn-out approval processes."
