The Largest Community Planning Effort Ever Undertaken

13 October 2005 - 11:00am

A team of 100 architects and planners from 50 design firms, and led by Andres Duany, are converting on South Mississippi for the Mississippi Renewal Forum.

"Led by internationally known designer Andres Duany of Miami, the group will help design 11 coastal communities. Duany is a proponent of new urbanism, a city design concept that emphasizes walkable neighborhoods with open spaces and a diverse range of housing and jobs.

...The commission formed eight issues committees to begin discussing everything from infrastructure to tourism and transportation. Their findings will be presented at the forum this week at intense brainstorming sessions - called charrettes - but at this point the committee reports are only a small part of the process."
