UC Irvine support for students displaced by Hurricane Katrina

The Department of Planning, Policy, and Design at the University of
California Irvine is offering to help students from universities in New
Orleans who are displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Our fall quarter does not
start until September 23, and that late start may be an advantage for
students seeking to continue their planning studies. UC Irvine will make
several accommodations. Interested students should contact the UC Irvine
Planning, Policy, and Design Department (at ppd@uci.edu) for details, but
examples of what can do include:

-- allowing students to visit for a quarter or quarters, taking classes
that they intend to transfer back to their home university

-- waiving application fees for students from New Orleans universities who
wish to enroll in our Master of Urban and Regional Planning program for
fall, 2005

-- waiving documentation requirements for students from New Orleans
universities who wish to apply for fall, 2005 enrollment, on a
case-by-case basis

For masters or Ph.D. students from New Orleans who seek to visit UCI for a
quarter or more during 2005-2006, with the intention of transferring
credits back to their home institution, students can take graduate
planning classes through the university extension's ACCESS program. The
fees associated with that program are lower than normal out-of-state
tuition. While we cannot waive out-of-state tuition, the option of
enrolling in our regular graduate classes through the extension program
will make the cost somewhat lower than out-of-state tuition.

Students who want information on specifics should contact the UC Irvine
Department of Planning, Policy, and Design at ppd@uci.edu. Please also
contact us if there are other ways we can help.
