Lack of Urban Policy
A broader issue that needs to be reviewed in the wake of the Katrina Disaster is the lack of any real urban policy in the last 40 years from DC. The crippled infrastructure (levees, etc.) of our cities will continue to crumble without federal intervention. The cities are becoming poorer without an ability to address these issues. Federal policy has encouraged the growth of suburbs and new infrastrucure via the new Highway Bill is geared to help alleviate traffic in suburbs at the expense of our cities.
