California Prison Plan Criticized

A plan for a new $335 million prison in Delano, CA, is raising questions whether the country is building too many prisons.
Ten years ago, the North Kern State Prison, was expected to lower Delano's unemployment rate and boost business. Now a new $335 million prison is planned right across the road from North Kern State. Is the country building too many prisons?" A coalition of groups has sued the state to stop the prison,ostensibly on environmental grounds, but in fact to force the state to re-examine its prison building plans and rethink its strict policies limiting paroles."
