Bicycling, Urban Design May Help Quell Obesity

While a recent study observed climbing obesity rates across the county, Oregon saw no change. A study attributes this to the states strong emphasis on bicycling, walking, and urban design.
A study by the Trust for Americas Health showed rising obesity rates throughout the nation with the exception of Oregon. The studys authors attribute this distinction to Oregons emphasis on urban design, which encourages more bicycling and walking. One obesity expert remarks that research in the field has moved away from the notion of personal responsibility to the idea of creating environment that foster healthy living.
