Growing cities scramble to hire city planners as many professionals move to the private sector.
"The planner pinch hurts even more in swelling cities as planners flee to private business, searching for less red tape and chunkier paychecks...Cities are constantly adding positions to keep pace with commercial and housing developments, but the pool of applicants continues to drain."
