President Bush Signs Energy Bill

President Bush acknowledged that the major overhaul of the nation's energy policy may not bring down high gasoline prices immediately.

"President George W. Bush has signed a huge energy bill that provides billions of dollars in tax subsidies to energy companies, but that even he has acknowledged will do little to alleviate the high prices of gasoline at the pump for most Americans...Despite its bipartisan backing, the measure drew objections that it granted too many subsidies to industry and that it did little to curb a growing national appetite for gasoline."
