Region Won't Forfeit Billions Over 710 Freeway

The EPA will not pull $4.5 billion in regional transportation fundingif controversial 710 Freeway is not completed.
The EPA Regional Administrator has stated that Southern California willnot lose $4.5 billion in federal transportation funds if the Foothill(710) Freeway is not completed, as freeway advocates had warned.According to the EPA, leaving the 710 Freeway incomplete will notadversely affect conformity with the South Coast Air Quality Plan.Freeway advocates say the completed freeway would cut vehicle miles andemissions, and that the Federal Highway Administration could still pullthe region's funding if the 4.5 mile segment is not built.
