Brookings Supports Kelo Vs. New London Decision

Despite the furor over the recent Supreme Court decision in the Kelo v. New London case -- the court's ruling did not expand government rights.
"As many Brookings Metropolitan Policy Program publications explain, eminent domain remains especially useful in older cities and inner-ring, first suburbs in the Northeast and Midwest, where many jurisdictions are essentially built-out and surrounded by other incorporated communities with no possibility of annexing additional land. In such a scenario, eminent domain is a crucial component of holistic redevelopment and economic development effortssuch as land banking and property assembly."
