The high-tech industry is actively pursuing the elusive goal of making traffic more fluid. So far, there's still a long way to go.
Three systems for traffic reduction are evaluated: Carlink, a car-sharing model based on the European system; a Dept. of Transportation software (TRANSIMS) designed to understand motorist motivation; and a traffic microsimulation software, Paramics, which models various traffic situations and recommends solutions.
