New security questions about the siting and design of Freedom Towerprovide a valuable opportunity to weigh what it's all about.

"The wave of security concerns at Ground Zero surrounding and impeding the Freedom Tower’s construction have highlighted the sharp and deep issues that tear at that site, and at the future of Lower Manhattan.

...Difficult as it is to step back from where we are, and distressing as it is to witness the blame game now unfolding, it would be dangerous to gloss over substantive challenges and push ahead without understanding what we are striving to achieve, both for the present and the future. Even today, it is already possible to discern some real movement toward a progressive vision for downtown."
