Sculptor Compensated For Destruction of Public Art Work

There's at least one incentive for property owners to maintain required public artwork.
When Colorado Place was developed in Santa Monica, CA, a fountain was incorporated to fulfill the local artwork requirement. After the piece was destroyed, thesculptor-designer filed suit. His complaint cited state and federal statutes that recognize the ownership rights of artists to public artworks which they create.
