Reducing Construction Costs In New York City
16 March 2005 - 2:00pm
New York remains the most expensive city in the nation to build new housing, but it doesn't have to be that way, according to a new study.
A new report by New York University's Furman Center for Real Estate and Urban Policy examines why the cost of building housing in New York City exceeds the cost of construction in other large American cities and provides over 90 recommendations government and the private sector can take to reduce the cost of housing development in the City.
The report, titled "Reducing the Cost of New Housing Construction in New York City: 2005 Update," touches on a broad range of issues, including labor, brownfields, inclusionary zoning, zoning and land use, and environmental regulation.

If hundreds of people in your community raised reasonable concerns about a planning program you developed, how would you respond? Perhaps you might call a community meeting, or ask community elected officials to reach out to community leaders.
