Transit Use Grows In Montreal

Public transit use in greater Montreal has risen by 7.8% since 1998 according to new origin-destination survey.
"Public transit use in greater Montreal has stabilized for the first time in more than 30 years, but - despite new suburban train lines, park-and-ride lots and a reserved carpooling lanes - the number of Montrealers travelling by car continues to grow, a new survey has found.The survey, done for the Metropolitan Transportation Agency, found cars still rule the roads, as 73 per cent of trips taken by people surveyed were in automobiles, usually carrying just a single passenger. That's up from 63 per cent in 1987."
