El Toro Airport Won't Fly

A new FAA report concludes that air flight plans for the former Orange County Marine Base are seriously flawed.

The report issued by the Federal Aviation Administration calls Orange County's plan for an airport at the El Toro Marine base unworkable as currently designed. Orange County's proposal calls for planes to take off to the north and east. However, according to the FAA report, airspace to the north of the proposed El Toro airport is already saturated with jets preparing to land at John Wayne Airport, Los Angeles International Airport and Long Beach Airport.
