Sales Tax For Metro?

Can a dedicated source of funding be found for the DC Metro?
A regional panel is recommending a new sales tax be enacted in order to provide the Washington, DC Metrorail system with a dedicated source of funds. WMATA, Washington's regional transit authority, currently must request funds from member jurisdictions on an as-needed basis.
