Public Safety Partnerships

Companies in older neighborhoods are working with corporate, government, police and community leaders to reduce crime by building more sustainable neighborhoods.

This article by Janet Reno, US Attorney General, is featured in the Summer 2000 issue of NeighborWorks Journal. All too often, businesses flee inner city neighborhoods for beltway business zones, thereby leaving already distressed neighborhoods less stable. Over the past six years the Department of Justice has encouraged the formation of public-private partnerships as a crim-fighting tool. The Department has funded community-oriented policing, community courts and innovative crime prevention programs.
