Golf Course Development Expansion Runs Into Trouble
13 November 2004 - 7:00am
Traffic and school have emerged as central issues in plans to expand Turf Valley Resort development in western Howard County, Maryland.
"The county has approved 1,370 housing units and more than 440,000 square feet of commercial space on the 800-acre Turf Valley Resort development in western Howard County, Maryland. This expansion would add 22,000-25,000 vehicles daily to a local road between Interstate 70 and U.S. 40. Thousands more would be generated, if the county OKs the developers plans to expand further.

The impact of community design and amenities on community engagement is substantial. Respondents with a lower overall grade for their communities were also found to be less engaged in their communities, as measured by participation in social activities, relationships with neighbors, volunteer work, and civic participation such as voting.
