Sales Taxes For Special Uses Unpopular

Two sales taxes for open space and transportation are defeated in Ventura, CA, despite popular support for the goals.
" 'We clearly have growing congestion and crumbling roads ... (and) waiting for the state and federal government to fix our roads is like waiting for the tooth fairy...'
Ventura County's sales tax is now 7.25 percent. Approval of both measures would have increased it to 8 percent, exceeding Kern, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties but trailing Los Angeles County."
