Utah Wilderness Area Sale Will Yield A Few Weeks' Worth Of Oil

13 September 2004 - 12:00pm

The Bureau of Land Management has auctioned off nearly nearly 40,000 acres of legislatively proposed wilderness in Utah to oil interests -- although studies show the resulting oil would serve the country's needs only for a few weeks.

The sale (ironically coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the Wilderness Act) is being opposed by a number of organizations, including the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance, the Natural Resources Defense Council, The Wilderness Society, The Grand Canyon Trust, and the Utah Chapter of the Sierra Club.
