A new study by the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation reports that New York tops the nation in its tax burden.

New York State residents pay the nation's highest state and local taxes, according to a Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation study which found thatTennessee taxes its citizens the least and places Massachusetts, onceridiculed as "Taxachusetts," in 40th place... "When the total bill for state and local taxes and fees was examined, the average U.S. resident paid out more than $152 per $1,000 of income. That was down $6 from a decade ago, which suggests some states cut levies fairly aggressively."
