Terry Tamminen may hold the most powerful environmental job in the U.S. outside of Washington, D.C. As the man handpicked by California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) to head the state's Environmental Protection Agency, Tamminen wields a lot of power -- and faces a heap of challenges. While California has long played the role of trendsetter in environmental policy, its environment is anything but pristine. Mark Hertsgaard sat down with Tamminen for an interview on the Schwarzenegger administration's environmental plans and the governor's differences with the president.
