New fast-setting concrete that sets in four hours instead of two to three days helps Caltrans reduce traffic problems due to construction.

Caltrans will use a new fast-setting concrete for a $6 million rehabilitation project on Interstate 680 between Walnut Creek and Dublin in California. The concrete sets in four hours instead of two to three days and willhelp reduce traffic problems due to construction. The new concrete is not more durable or stronger but is three to five timesmore expensive than conventional concrete.
