The British Guardian newspaper offers some tips on evaluating the true cost of owning a car.
Did you know that "a quarter of the environmental pollution and 20% of a car's lifetime energy expenditure occurs during manufacture?" Or that by buying a more fuel efficient model, a household can save in one year alone "as much energy as if they had recycled all their glass bottles for 400 years." These and other facts try to put the true cost of owning and operating a car within a more understandable context.
