Are Gated Communities 'Racially Polarizing?'

A county's law to allow gated communities sparks a debate.

"Proponents of gated communities say they are safer than other subdivisions. Others worry that by creating a world behind gates, these residents will reduce their civic activities outside the gates...there have been no formal studies that gated communities contribute to discrimination or civic decay, nor has there been conclusive research that gated communities are safer."
