Community Gardeners Sue City of Los Angeles

A 300 family garden in the L.A. barrio has been returned to a developer, so the South Central Farmers Feeding Families have taken their cause to the courts.

Mexican families in the barrio of Los Angeles use the South Central Los Angles community garden as a refuge, to feed their families, and to grow produce that is unavailable or else too expensive in stores. "I don't want my children to be in gangs, so I bring them here and teach them how I grew up so they can pass it on to their children," said Raul Moreno. But the land has a messy owndership history including an eminent domain taking. A preliminary injunction has kept the farmers on their land... for now.

The decision to abandon a property is a symptom of the loss of confidence.
