Green roof technology is taking root in commercial and civic projects across the country.
Roofs are being covered with soil and hardy plants that, in addition to keeping the temperature down and improving aesthetics, also decrease rainwater runoff and boost energy efficiency... Perhaps surprisingly, many businesses say they have embraced the concept for purely pragmatic reasons such as cost savings and employee morale. Ford Motors and The Gap are among the companies that have gone this route, citing cost offsets and worker quality of life. In Manhattan, the Durst Organization is building the Helena."
