7 March 2004 - 1:00pm
Portsmouth, a rural town on Aquidneck Island, hopes to create a new mixed-use center using New Urbanist principles and traffic calming techniques.
"Plans to create a town center are gaining momentum following a recent announcement from Governor Carcieri's office that the town will receive a $12,000 economic development grant. The Town Council voted in December to approve the required matching funds, giving the town center committee $24,000 to continue the project."
