Copters Barred From Logging
A judge temporarily barred the Pacific Lumber Co.from using helicopters for logging on private land near the Headwaters Forest in California's North Coast.
Environmental groups including the Sierra Club had sued to prevent the Pacific Lumber Co. from using helicopters for logging on private land near the Headwaters Forest. The decision will impact the North Coast regionof California. The 705-acre plot over which this lawsuit isfiled is 7 miles south of Eureka. Pacific Lumber Co. says thatthe use of helicopters protects the environment in keepingwith the Headwaters agreement that restricts loggingroads. Environmentalists say the choppers will ruin thewilderness experience. A judge temporarily barred Pacific LumberCo. from using helicopters but the environmentalists mustpost a $250,000 indemnification bond against losses Pacific Lumber says it will suffer.
