Support For Sign Language Town
28 January 2004 - 4:00am
McCook County Commission voted 4-1 to support new sign language town in South Dakota.
"The idea of building first new town in South Dakota receives an important boost in form of official support from McCook County Commission...Laurent is envisioned as a beautifully designed, compact city of about 1,200 residents where deaf and hard-of-hearing people would be free to pursue business and civic interests that might seem out of reach in the hearing world. The developers expect that sign-language users from across the country would move to Laurent, but the community would be open to hearing people as well."
