Shanghai Has Big Plans

Shanghai's approach to city development is built around massive and expensive projects.
Following up on the success of it's new financial district, Shanghai has opened the world's first commercial use maglev train line. Further plans include hosting China's first ever Formula One car-racing event in a brand new venue which will highlight Shanghai as a new "auto city". While ridership on the new maglev line remains well below capacity, tbe city's car craze is quite evident. The train's operators are optimistic about the worsening congestion of the streets - "within a few years it will be very inconvenient to take the road to the airport."
